Ex-Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is back in the news, not for his play or off-the-field gaffes, but his shrewd business sense.
These days, the 32-year old has been a mostly injured member of the Miami Dolphins. But in 2021, the two-time NFL All-Pro signed with the Los Angeles Rams in a risky way, which served as a trend back then.
According to The Action Network, Beckham converted his $750,000 salary into bitcoin on Nov. 12, 2021, when the price was $64,158.
Critics of move felt vindicated when Beckham’s converted salary depreciated as low $401,500. But now that the flamboyant pass-catcher is up, he took to ‘X’ to gloat about it.
“‘Soooo who said taking my Rams salary in bitcoin was dumb again?’” Beckham, whose aforementioned salary is worth $1,052,000 in bitcoin after hitting a high of $91,726.70 on Nov. 13, wrote his critics on Wednesday.
Beckham tore his ACL during the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl LVI win over the Cincinnati Bengals on February 13, 2022. He has just five catches for 32 yards for the Dolphins this season after missing much of training camp and the early part of the year due a knee injury.
Beckham has also played for the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens since his tenure with the Giants ended in 2019, but never quite regained the form of the player who won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and made three Pro Bowls from 2014 to 2016.
